Ask anyone around the Mercury office and they will tell you that I am absolutely kooky over cake. I've even tried to cajole my comrades into putting out an exclusive Mercury cake issue, complete with recipes and contests and fun facts about frosting! But no dice... They'd rather talk about oral sex and bacon.
The weirdest thing about my cake obsessions is that I don't even like cake that much. In fact, I rarely even eat it. Still, my cake passion cannot be quenched.
Last week, editor Wm. Steven Humphrey approached me with an article that he'd just read. "I thought a girlish cake whore like you might get off on this," he told me, throwing the used copy of Entertainment Weekly in my face.
Boy, was he right! The article was about Cakey! The Cake from Outer Space, a series of web shorts from Mr. Ghost on Superdelux.com. The series revolves around Duncan, a thirteen year old boy with a rapid growth affliction, and his incongruous pal, Cakey, a talking black forest chocolate cake with magical eyes. Together, the duo get into all kinds of chuckle-worthy mischief.
