Tonight at Powell's, the incomparable T. Coraghessan Boyle reads in support of his new novel, The Women (not to be confused with the fantastically acerbic Joan Crawford film, or Diane English's depressingly declawed remake). Boyle's latest historical fiction is about the women unfortunate enough to get involved with Frank Lloyd Wright; in her review in this week's paper, Courtney Ferguson declares that The Women's eloquent portraits are wrapped in the strong, clean lines of Wright's signature style and also in the viscerally charged 'tick and crepitus' of Boyle's." So there you have it.

Boyle is reputedly an excellent speaker (plus his website is really very charming). Get there early.

Also note: The reading for Me, Chi, and Bruce Lee at the Hawthorne Powell's has been cancelled, which means that the hilarious Kung Fu Panda joke I made in this week's book listings was for naught. More book listings here.
