Council has this morning recommended that the Oregon Marine Board create a "No Wake Zone" in the Holgate Channel, and ban motor boats in the Ross Island Lagoon.

The change was suggested by the three environmental groups listed on the sticker in the photo above.

About 80 people with "I love NO WAKE ZONE" stickers showed up for council this morning. About 20 opponents to the change showed up, too, including realtor Bruce Hecht, who wanted to be able to continue "pulling my 12 year old along with an inner tube" behind Ross Island. Not for much longer, Bruce...the change is supposed to benefit canoe and kayak fanatics from the creative class. Kidding. Randy Leonard says he's also just bought a sailboat for $1400, and that he doesn't want to be disturbed while enjoying that portion of the river.
