Hey, Portlander. There's an election happening sometime next year that you might be half-assed interested in. It's for police commissioner Dan Saltzman's seat on city council. So far we've interviewed Ed Garren, Spencer Burton, and Jason Renaud, who are all running for the seat. Mary Volm, a late entrant into the race, has declined repeated requests for an interview.

This morning, via email, comes news of a series of opportunities for you to get to know Ed Garren:

Saturday, December 19.
9 am to 2:30 pm
Breakfast with Ed at the Overlook Restaurant
Skidmore and Maryland (one block east of N. Interstate Ave.)

3pm to 5pm
"Holiday Gluhwein With Ed Garren"
Take a break from shopping for a gluhwein - mullied spiced German wine served warm!
(outside event on sidewalk - cafe tables only - approved by Greta, owner)
515 SW Fourth Street
Portland, OR 97204

December 22
4pm to 7pm
"Greek Hour With Ed Garren"
$1.95, $2.95, and $3.95 appetizer plates, beverage specials

If you manage to get to any of these events, please send us your reports. What did you think of the candidate? How was the Gluhwein? Oh, and take pictures. Lots of pictures.
