First, this opening sequence is magic.

Second, here's Jerry Bruckheimer talking to MTV about a possible Top Gun 2. Via AICN:

"We were recently approached again to start talking about it but, you know, nothing yet... We kicked around some ideas because the aviation community has completely changed since we made the movie a long time ago. So we have to find a way in and how to incorporate the Maverick character into it."

Just FYI, director Tony Scott's most recent film was the underwhelming The Taking of Pelham 123, and star Tom Cruise's was last weekend's Knight and Day, which more or less nobody saw. Something tells me that if you went to those dudes with a script—any script—labeled "Top Gun 2," you wouldn't have too much trouble getting 'em to sign on. Anthony Edwards would be all over it, too, showing up to the set and telling everyone that he's really excited about "bringing Goose back to the big screen!" "Goddammit, that guy wasn't even invited," Tom Cruise will tell Paramount security. "Quick, somebody tell him they're rebooting Revenge of the Nerds two stages over."
