If you know of Ilyas Ahmed, you probably know him for his music— but tonight at Nationale you'll have a chance to get to know the visual side of the Portland-based, Pakistan native in his solo exhibit, The Endless Intermission. You might've already encountered Ahmed's visual side through his album covers, where his collages aptly capture his 'little bit indie, little bit meditative' sonic sensibility. Where other local collagists pull from art-historical and design-trend sources (triangles!), Ahmed seems to be in state of self-influence— a sort of creative feedback loop— producing images that feel like representations of his songs, and songs that feel like representations of his images. These are beautifully mangled things. If you're a fan Ahmed's music, this'll be a good opportunity to get wider view of his creative language.

After the jump are a few images from the show, and if you want to see more, stop by Nationale (811 E Burnside) tonight from 6-9 pm for the opening reception. The Endless Intermission runs through March 27.
