Speaking of filmic trips down memory lane with highly questionable possible outcomes, David Wain (who directed and co-wrote the original with Michael Showalter) says plans are in the works for a Wet Hot American Summer prequel. Before you freak out about the tarnishing of another treasured memory, consider that he's talking about using the same cast, some of whom have made impressive strides over the past decade (Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper). (Others not so much. Looking at you, Janeane Garofalo.) It would also mean that the cast, whose age was already a running joke in the original, will be playing their characters even younger, because it's a prequel... except not really, as Wain "explains" in an impressively mangled manner: "The prequel would be the same summer so they would be 20 years old for the part yeah, but not younger. So it would be 40-year-olds playing 16-year-olds. And yeah, we’re in the early stages of thinking about that." What?!?! Stay tuned...
