If you read this paper (OF COURSE YOU DO), you may have noticed that festival season is in full swing around here. But one that we you may have overlooked, what with all the music going on, is the PDX Bridge Festival.

Just in its second year, this little fest's still flying a bit below the radar. It's been going on all week; bridge-celebrating events so far have comprised an arty, boozy kick-off block party (who knew?), various bridge tours, panel discussions and presentations. But don't worry if you've missed those because the best is yet to come: by far the biggest deal on the lineup happens today with Brunch on the Bridge.

By 10 a.m., the 101-year-old Hawthorne Bridge will be transformed into a grassy park for your picnicking and lawn-gaming pleasure. Twice as big as last year, 2011's Brunch promises mimosas, food carts, roving performers, croquet — oh yeah, and the World's Largest Box of Doughnuts (leave it to Voodoo).

This is also a charity event, with proceeds going to hunger-fighting bike delivery organization B-Shares, so break out the non-perishables. If the $25 cash-only entrance fee is prohibitive, at least wander by for some of those doughnuts, which will all be up for grabs to fight your hunger.

And tomorrow night, from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m., the Crystal Ballroom will host the PDX Bridge Festival closing party, a musical marathon with performances from 13 local bands, including Copy, Mnemonic Sounds, Tango Alpha Tango, Wanderlust Circus, and more, for just $10.
