Bryan Singer's unasked-for second reboot of Battlestar Galactica just snagged a writer, and it's the dude who wrote that fuckin' owl movie.

Deal comes after [John] Orloff scripted and exec produced Anonymous, the Roland Emmerich-directed film that Sony Pictures will platform, a drama that takes the position Shakespeare didn’t really write his great works. Orloff also scripted Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole [sic, actually "Gahahhaäaoooullhhëlhellehey"] and the Angelina Jolie-starrer A Mighty Heart, and was Emmy nominated for HBO’s Band of Brothers mini. He’s also attached to write Truckers for DreamWorks Animation. He’s repped by CAA.

To Owly's credit, he does seem pretty excited, telling Deadline, "I have wanted to write this movie since I was 12 years old, and built a Galactica model from scratch out of balsa wood, cardboard, old model parts and LEDs. I love BSG, and I would pass on the job rather than frak it up.”

I can't imagine this reboot will actually happen—any association most people have with Battlestar is going to be related to Ronald D. Moore's (recent, good) version and not the (ancient, lame) version, which means if this thing happens, 90 percent of anyone talking about it will consist of, "No, it's not a reboot of the reboot of the crappy '70s show only four dweebs remember, it's a reboot of the actual crappy '70s show only four dweebs remember." Three cheers for Hollywood!
