Last night, Timbers fans got the news they'd been waiting for since Portland bowed out of the postseason hunt a few weeks back: Rival Seattle was eliminated from the first round of the playoffs for the third straight season despite winning last night's match against Real Salt Lake 2-0.

Aggregate goals decide who advances in the Major League Soccer playoffs, and after a 3-0 beatdown in Utah over the weekend, Seattle needed a blowout victory of its own if it hoped to extend the career of legendary keeper Kasey Keller. Instead, the 42-year-old former University of Portland star officially retires as the most despised one-time Timber in Rose City history.

Meanwhile, things should be quiet in Timberland until the Nov. 23 expansion draft, when MLS newcomer Montreal will have a chance to poach one of Portland's players.
