Dal Ray Williams James Baldwin, up for grabs at Disjectas 5th Annual Art Auction

  • Dal Ray Williams' "James Baldwin," up for grabs at Disjecta's 5th Annual Art Auction

Tomorrow evening (Saturday, November 12, 7-11 pm) Disjecta Interdisciplinary Art Center (8371 N Interstate) will host its 5th Annual Art Auction. The auction is Disjecta's only yearly fundraiser, so if you're a regular over there or if you feel strongly about the future of their programming, tap into the piggy bank and head on by (and ready yourself for a $30 entry fee, unless you secure $20 advance tickets by midnight tonight).

But why support the art space?

Over the last few years, Disjecta has grown in some big ways, most notably in establishing the Portland Biennial, a bi-yearly recap on regional art which gave some very talented locals the chance to fill our city with large, ambitious projects— including Oregon Painting Society's standout, Hexenhouse. And while Disjecta strives to fill the clunkier gaps in Portland's art infrastructure with ventures like the biennial, it has continuously illustrated a dedication to a merit-centric, regional-through-national mission. It's a mission that's maintained its freshness with projects such as the new-ish curator in residence program, which handed over the space to Portland-based artist and curator Jenene Nagy for the 2011-2012 season (soon to conclude with a solo show from famed Day-Glo abstractionist, Peter Halley).

Outside Disjecta's increasingly-essential role in the local scene, there are other fine reasons to hit up the auction: vittles from Firehouse, Olympic Provisions, Vibrant Table, and Alder Pastry and Desserts; open bar hosted by Deschutes, Aviation Gin, and Pok Pok Som (the latter of which is serving something called “drinkable vinegars”); as well as live and silent auctions featuring artwork by folks like Damien Gilley, Gus Van Sant, and Matt McCormick. (The live auction starts at 8:30 pm.)

After the jump is a complete list of artists who've donated work for auction, as well as samples from the lot.
