Here's something you never expected: I'm going to tell you about a sale!

In all seriousness, it's a good one: One Night Stand (Thursday, Dec 1 at ADX, 7-10 pm) features a host of top-notch vendors, including Haunt, Yo Vintage!, Grayling, The Cdock, Betsy & Iya, Rill Rill, Ellington Leather, Looptworks, Sock It To Me, No Star Tees, and Ms. Wood, but it's also a showcase for the start-up Student Stylists. Founded this year by Art Institute Fashion department adjunct professors Eden Dawn and Kami Gray, the venture is "an organized, centralized place for their star junior and senior students to get experience in the field of fashion and design."

Covering fields from styling for print, film, and personal purposes to event production and visual merchandising, the organization exposes students to businesses (and potential employers) in the area, as well as acting as something of a guarantor to businesses seeking temporary help—it's catching on, and so far they boast a client list that includes Nike and the Imperial Collection (and the Mercury—fashion intern and MOD contributor Kayla Rekofke is part of the group). It also ensures that the stylists are paid, something that easily falls through the cracks when young people are desperate for work experience. So, come for the local shopping, the complimentary food (catered by Kayla's restauranteur mother, BTW) and drinks, the wacky photobooth featuring a backdrop mural of reindeer in ugly Christmas sweaters, and stay to get to know the upcoming generation of Portland's design industry.
