Do Republicans really think that arguing against the auto bailout is going to win them points with Michigan voters? Like Mitt Romney, Santorum is not only arguing against the bailouts, he's also invoking the verboten GWB-word to damn them even further:

When asked about the government bailouts of Wall Street and the auto industry, Rick Santorum argued against all government bailouts at the Economic Club of Detroit today.

Santorum said that he was consistently against all government bailouts, and blamed President Bush for "setting the precedence" for government intervention in the economy beginning with Bear Stearns.

"I actually blame president Bush more than I do President Obama," Santorum said, "President Obama was only following suit."

On a day when it was announced that unionized GM workers were getting $7,000 bonuses after a record-breaking quarter, these Republicans are sounding more tone-deaf than ever. Bringing up he-who-must-never-be-named-by-Republican-candidates, too, is a sign that Santorum doesn't have any idea what Republican voters want to hear.
