Former Spinane Rebecca Gates has announced the details of her very, very, very long-awaited solo album—her first record since 2001's Ruby Series EP and her first full-length since her days with the Spinanes. The album, credited to Rebecca Gates and the Consortium, is called The Float, and it'll see vinyl release on May 29 on 12XU Records, followed by a digital and CD release on Gates' own Parcematone label on June 12. A huge array of guest musicians play on the record, many of them Portlanders: Joe Adamik, Thierry Amar, James Becker, Steve Berlin, Joanna Bolme, Rebecca Cole, Becky Foon, Mark Greenberg, Gary Jarman, Benny Massarella, Doug McCombs, John McEntire, Jessica Moss, Sonja Myklebust, Nate Query, Tim Rutili, and Ji Tanzer.

Gates has made a track available on her website and Soundcloud. Although it's not embeddable, you can go here to check out the new song, which is called "& & &." No word on whether that has anything to do with local band And And And (I'd venture a guess as to no). Rebecca Gates and the Consortium are playing Tuesday, April 17 at Bunk Bar, and will also be guests at La Gaîté Lyrique's strange-seeming Portland festival later this month in Paris.
