This weekend Sallie Ford is on a bill with Wanda Jackson, which is about as inspired a pairing as it gets. That show takes place tomorrow night (Saturday, April 21) at the Roseland as part of the bogglingly diverse Soul'd Out Music Festival, with Jackson & Ford (I'm telling you, those two names together just resonate) offering a vintage rockabilly edge to the festival's lineup.
So here's a new video from Sallie Ford and the Sound Outside for the song "This Crew." It was shot during the band's recent European tour; they're huge over there—particularly in France, where Ford's brassy voice and the Sound Outside's jazzy, rocking sound must seem exotically American, like a pair of blue jeans worn by Jerry Lewis himself. This treated footage of Ford and crew traipsing along the cobblestone streets and churches of Olde Europe, set to their defiantly New World music, feels weirdly timeless, like it could have been shot by vacationing Americans in the '50s or the '80s or now.
