ThinkProgress released this story on Friday:

Presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney’s new foreign policy spokesperson Richard Grenell has an odd penchant for targeting the wives of male politicians and women in general on Twitter...This afternoon, Grennell offered an apology, of sorts, for his attacks, writing, “my tweets were written to be tongue-in-cheek and humorous but I can now see how they can also be hurtful. I didn’t mean them that way and will remove them from twitter. I apologize for any hurt they caused.”

Grennell, who was George W. Bush's UN spokesman, has attacked Rachel Maddow, Callista Gingrich, Jessica Simpson ("if only air-brushing was permanent"), and Michelle Obama (he was offended by her “sweating on the East Room carpet.") When the media started paying attention to Grennell's tweets, he got busy:

Richard Grenell, a former Bush administration official who joined the Romney campaign Thursday as national security and foreign policy spokesman, appears to have deleted more than 800 of his past tweets following scrutiny over numerous swipes aimed at the media, prominent Democratic women and the Gingriches. Grenell also apparently took down his personal site, which featured writing on politics, foreign affairs and the media.

Wow. 800 tweets isn't an occasional slip of the tongue. 800 tweets is pathological. If Mitt Romney actually held press availabilities, someone might ask him how he feels about having a misogynist ex-Bush-employee as a spokesman. Luckily for Mitt Romney, Mitt Romney doesn't hold press availabilities. Of course, Grennell will fit right in with the Romney campaign's commitment to secrecy and whitewashing the past.
