Ever wonder why you TV lovers can't get streaming services like HBO GO À la carte on your computer, without subscribing to a cable or satellite service? Web designer Jake Caputo wondered the same thing, and so started the "Take My Money, HBO!" site that asks how much YOU would pay to get the standalone streaming HBO service, and tweet your answer. Unfortunately, even if you tweeted you'd pay $1000 per month, HBO ain't having it, and isn't planning on supplying such a service in the near future. HBO twittered that while they were enjoying the love from "Take My Money," Ryan Lawler of Tech Crunch "has it right."
This is what Lawler wrote:

“What would happen if HBO no longer had the pay-TV industry’s marketing team propping it up all the time? The results would be disastrous, and there’s no way that HBO could make up in online volume the number of subscribers it would lose from cable. Which is why, even though some users would actually pay more for access to HBO GO without all the other cable channels, you won’t see it show up as a standalone service anytime soon.”

Sigh. Life is terrible. OH! And speaking of terrible, here's what terrible NYP TV columnist Linda Stasi has to say about Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner, who she accuses of "exploiting" the 12-year-old actress who plays Sally Draper.

What in hell is he doing with little Sally Draper?
Whatever it is, I think it requires a call to Child Protective Services to make it stop.
Maybe the parents of the 12-year-old actress who plays Sally, Kiernan Shipka, are too caught up in the glamour of the show to stop the harm it has caused their child — harm that is being played out before the country.
Sorry, but what Weiner has done over the last two seasons to the character of this child smacks not just of Hollywood perversity, but of child exploitation disguised as art.
