While 1991's Terminator 2: Judgment Day is a big, ridiculous, crowd-pleasing chunk of blockbuster, 1984's The Terminator is lean, mean, scary, and pretty much a work of genius. Watching The Terminator is watching James Cameron before he had CG, billions of dollars, and the ability to do whatever wanted—like El Mariachi, The Terminator is a film made by a young filmmaker who somehow creates a maximum amount of cinema from a minimal amount of resources.

If you haven't seen it in a while—or if, god forbid, you have never seen it—well, here's what you should do tonight: Head over to the Bagdad (3702 SE Hawthorne), where at 11 pm, local podcasters Cort and Fatboy (and the Mercury!) are showing the film for a mere $3. That's roughly how much The Terminator cost to make, and it's worth every cent.
