As Steve mentioned in Good Morning News, OPB recently unveiled a whole host of changes to its programming schedule, including the addition of seven new shows, and bumping the music show In House music to online-only (BOOO). New shows include San Francisco's City Arts and Lectures, The TED Radio Hour, and a new show from Portland's own Back Fence, PDX. When I was researching last week's podcasting article, I asked Back Fence's Frayn Masters about the live storytelling show's transition to radio; here's what she had to say:
I partnered with OPB and have created 10 'best of' radio episodes that will begin airing in October, each episode will be available for podcast after they air! There will also be a Back Fence PDX RADIO After Hours podcast (for the dirtier/explicit stories, they will carry an EXPLICIT label) that will be available for download sometime after the Radio episodes being airing.
For the same article, I spoke with Destination DIY's Julie Sabatier; her show will be moving to Tuesdays at 9 pm, through August 28.
Another striking change: local news catch-all Think Out Loud will be airing at noon instead of 9 am, with a rebroadcast at 8 pm. I like this change: I won't listen at noon, so the evening show will no longer be an annoying rebroadcast. I'm looking forward to the addition of the America's Test Kitchen show on Sundays, though I wish they weren't moving The Splendid Table so early—it's now at 3 pm, which means I will never listen to it again. (Cooking shows should be on during cooking-dinner time.) Quiz show Ask Me Another is another nice addition to Saturday afternoons, and I'm glad it's an addition to, rather than a replacement for, Wait Wait Don't Tell Me. Now if only they'd do something about On Being....
