Tonight there will be a free party at the IPRC for the book release of Carrie Seitzinger's new poetry collection Fall Ill Medicine. Hosted by Mindy Nettifee, there will be singing, dance, music, free snacks and beer, and performances by Sarah Cawley and Eve Darling. Carrie will be reading from her new book, the second on Small Doggies Press, which she edits. Carrie doesn't read very often, but is one of the best poets in town and made a big impression on me when I first saw her two years ago. Copies of the book will be available on discount. Check out samples of her work at her website.

The IPRC isn't downtown anymore, it's at 1001 SE Division St., Portland, OR 97202. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and readings begin at 8:30.

BUT HEY! Before you do that, stop by Colonel Summers Park on 20th and SE Belmont to enjoy an outdoor reading event, the Li'l Bitch Tour, hosted by Kevin Sampsell and featuring Chelsea Martin, Elizabeth Ellen, Scott McClanahan, and Bradley Sands. It will be fun and painless and no doubt cooler than your apartment, unless you have A/C in which case why are you reading the Mercury didn't you know Mercury readers tend not to have A/C?

The Colonel Summers event begins at 5:30 p.m. and should segue nicely into the later reading.
