Lord, does this town love pork fat. 2012's celebration of man's favorite breakfast meat will be EastBurn's 4th annual of it's kind. Slated for this Saturday, September 8 from noon to 9 pm, Baconfest returns with a vengeance... and a bacon-greased Slip-N-Slide.

EastBurn will be closing off a block of 18th from Burnside to Ankeny for the festivities, which cost $5 and a suggested canned food donation for the Oregon Food Bank. There will be vendors selling everything bacon, a whole pig courtesy of EastBurn's competent kitchen, and there will be at least three forms of bacon-eating contests (a dance-off, a triathlon, and a standard version—all involving excessive consumption of cured pork). There will also be music from Pagan Jug Band, Left Coast Country, and Hot Tea Cold.

Previous Baconfests have drawn crowds of over 2,000 meat-lovers (and maybe a couple awkward vegans along for the beer). Music, beer, and bacon? There aren't many superior ways to celebrate a weekend in Portland, in my opinion.
