Good morning, Cocktail Week! As our city's finest bartenders schmooze with other cities' finest bartenders this week, learning to be better bartenders while getting w-w-w-wasted, they've managed to set aside a few notable events on the schedule for the rest of us to enjoy, too. Tonight's is one of the most promising: James Beard Award-winning mixologist Dale DeGroff will be holding court at the Living Room Theaters with an absolutely delightful-sounding evening of storytelling, centered around—obviously—booze. Puling from his own experiences as a bartender for 40 years, his will cover "bar life in America, from Colonial times through Prohibition, and to the present" while you sip on old time-y craft cocktails, snack on hors d’oeuvres, and enjoy the strains of jazz guitarist Tracy Kim's renditions from the Great American Songbook. Fucking delightful, I tell you. It gets going at 6 pm this evening, and considering all that a $35 pre-purchased ticket doesn't sound bad—get one now, or you'll fork over $40 at the door. And if you're looking for something to do until the magic hour, consider familiarizing yourself with DeGroff's The Craft of the Cocktail across the street at Powell's, and check out our other picks for Cocktail Week events that're open to the public.
