Cartoonist Ellen Forney is the recent recipient of a Stranger genius award for literature; you might've seen her book Lust, which compiles comics based on kinky ads in the Stranger's Lust Lab. Her new graphic memoir Marbles: Mania, Depression, Michelangelo, and Me is a funny, honest account of being diagnosed with bipolar disorder at age 30, and how she worried that treating the disorder would obstruct her creativity. (Fifteen years later, she's still a working cartoonist and comics instructor—it clearly hasn't.) My full review of the book, including quotes from my interview with Forney, is here. For tonight's Powell's presentation, she promises a slide-show reading that's "a little more theatrical than most readings."
