Loch Lomond are going continental for the foreseeable future. The Portland ensemble plays their final hometown show next week, Friday, November 30, at the Aladdin Theater, as part of a string of Northwest dates that will be their last shows in the US, according to the band. They'll continue to tour Europe—and they have a new album coming out there in February—but this is it for American fans.
It's an interesting move, but one that makes sense considering the prohibitive cost of touring in the US largely due to gas prices. Touring Europe is no bargain either, but for a band like Loch Lomond that has a more substantial following in Europe than stateside, it seems like an appropriate move. And who wouldn't want to continue touring Europe? Judging by their new music video above, for "Your Eyes," which was shot on LL's jaunt to Europe this past spring, it looks pretty irresistible.
Loch Lomond frontman Ritchie Young says that he has plans to embark on a new musical project in the near future, and he will certainly be playing Portland shows with that ensemble, in whatever form it may take. But as far as seeing Loch Lomond as a live band, after these shows you'll need to get your passport stamped. For the Portland farewell show, Loch Lomond's ranks are swelling to super-size, incorporating several musicians who have played in the band's various incarnations. The lineup includes Young, Jade Brings Plenty, Brooke Parrott, Jason Leonard, Jay Demko, Dave Depper, Scott Magee, Jay Clarke, and Amanda Lawrence, with members of the Brothers Young potentially guesting on a song or two. Black Prairie opens.
Here's a song from Loch Lomond's upcoming album Black Dresses, which will come out next year in Europe.
