Hey PC (who doesn't read these comments): Research "What Does a Good Journalist Do?" then tell us what you learn.

This is the sort of hard hitting, in-depth journalism I've come to expect from Paul Constant.

First off, SRS is my idea of hell. So there is that.

Secondly, the basic premise of the post is incorrect, and more than likely intentionally misleading . GGGina is not the gender equivalent of GGGreg (which is in itself an annoying meme, but I digress). GGGreg is more or less gender-neutral* meme and comments on nice things done by nice people. GGGina is a misogynistic meme meant to specifically comment on things of a sexual, and generally sexually degrading, nature. To compare the two is intentionally setting up a misleading, and I would argue propagandistic, argument.

If you want to make an argument that the GGGina meme is misogynistic, go ahead, although I think that is fairly self-evident.

If you want to make an argument that Reddit is by and large sexist, that argument can be made and is probably a valid argument.

*If you want to make an argument that gender-neutral for Reddit (and most everyone) is male and that is not a good thing, that is a fine argument to make.

However, creating an intentionally misleading argument in order to further a specific agenda is just creating and spreading propaganda.

If one reads further down the comments in that post, one will see advocacy for the kind of thought policing that frightens me, whether it comes from the right or the left. If you have an argument to make, make it in the relevant thread. Making an argument like this, in an isolated corner of Reddit where only those folks inclined to agree with the argument would tread, is the worst kind of bubble-creating circle-jerk. Its the liberal equivalent of listening to Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh.

The intentional misuse of data to support a piece of propaganda makes people less likely to trust real data in support of any argument.

TL;DR: misogynistic meme is misogynistic, therefore all of Reddit is misogynistic

Ugh, reddit circlejerks spilling into my Portland circlejerks. No bueno.
