Settlements Aren't Helping. Today in the West Bank city of Ramallah, President Obama said Israel’s continued settling of the West Bank did not “advance the cause of peace.” But he didn’t ask Israel to stop its busy building. Obama did say he thought a two-state solution was still possible.

Assad Wants Probing. Earlier today, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced the UN will investigate the chemical weapon launched in Syria on Tuesday. Neither the Syrian rebels or Assad’s government has claimed responsibility for the incident. But it’s the Syrian government that’s, er, asking for the probing. So this could get interesting.

Marines Identified. The seven Marines killed in a training exercise in Nevada earlier this week have been identified.

Yesterday, the same court shot down a lower court decision that would have increased regulation on Oregon logging roads.

And a new anti-malaria drug created at Oregon Health & Science University is looking promising.(Somewhere in here there’s a joke about Tropics Cancer and Capricorn, Europe trying to reclaim its lost colonies, and why anti-malarial drugs don't go as well with gin as tonic water, but for the life of me I’m not sure what it is.)

Of course if the new drug doesn’t work you could always shoot those malaria-carrying mosquitoes with lasers. Which looks really fucking cool in slow motion!
