Joe's Cellar is back in business (almost). The venerable northwest Portland dive bar shut down by the city in April will reopen later this summer, according to a news release.

"C.E. John Company announced today they have purchased the building on NW 21st and Pettygrove, will make the required repairs in July, and hope to reopen Joe’s later this summer," the release says.

An inspection earlier this year found "the building is leaning out and the roof joists have separated from the wall so that the wall is no longer attached to the roof."

The 105-year-old building has hosted a restaurant and bar since 1941. Jim Hittner, the business' current owner, purchased it in 1994.

This latest development may only be a stay of execution for the business, though. According to the press release, Vancouver-based C.E. John's "ultimate plans are to redevelop the property in the future after Jim retires."
