I'm on vacation this week but the "Savage Love Letter of the Day"—a.k.a. "SLLOTD"—must go on! Subbing for me this week...

Chris Savage is an industrial chemist by day and Michigan's most widely read progressive political blogger the rest of the time. His work covering Michigan's take over by corporatist Republicans has been featured on MSNBC, The Nation magazine, the New York Times Magazine and beyond. Rachel Maddow calls Chris's blog Eclectablog "The indispensable Michigan politics source—the essential Michigan blog". And get this: His last name is "Savage." That makes Chris the natural and obvious choice to take over the "SLLOTD" in my absence. In addition to his writing, Chris is a local organizer for the Michigan Democratic Party where work is already underway to return control of the state government to Democrats in 2014. He also coordinates a community garden that provides (literally) tons of fresh produce to a local food bank. Chris is married to photographer Anne C. Savage. They live on their suburban homestead just outside of Ann Arbor with their cat and pit bull where they tend a large organic garden. You can follow Chris on Twitter (@Eclectablog) and his Facebook page.

Chris will be answering your questions all week. This is his first crack at sex-and-relationship advice so… be gentle with him in the comments, okay? –Dan

In your column this week I read about a 26-year-old straight girl who's a virgin and needs some help with getting rid of her virginity. I can help. I and understand those feelings. If she is in the Detroit area I can really help her. I'm not a nut or stalker, just a guy who can give her confidence and who can also help ease her frustration. Forward my email address to her.

Not a stalker

My response after the jump...

Hmmm… So, NAS, you want to help a Detroit virgin lose her virginity, eh? That's mighty altruistic of you. Here's the thing: She wasn't asking for a list of willing volunteers to fix her problem. She was working on fixing her problem herself and just needed some assistance. It's actually an incredibly apt comparison to the city of Detroit itself.

It's no secret that Detroit has problems. What Detroit needs is not for someone to come in and fix its problems. It needs help so that it can fix its own problem. Instead, what Detroit has is a bunch of "investors" (I call them opportunistic corporatists) who want to parachute in and "help" Detroit in ways that fatten their own bank accounts and give them control over Detroit's resources. Let's face it; this isn't about "helping" Detroit. It's about them getting rich at Detroit's expense.

Kinda like you and the scads of other guys who wanted to "help" the Detroit virgin. Let's face it; this was not about helping her. It's about you scoring an easy lay. So stop it. Detroit's got enough problems. It doesn't need to get screwed by people trying to "help".
