FILM—Following the death of the great crime writer Elmore Leonard, the Laurelhurst's been playing some of the best films based on his books: first Out of Sight, then Get Shorty, and now the coolest of them all, Jackie Brown. MUSIC—Believe the hype: The girls in UK post-punk group Savages offer something snarling, seething, and stirring. Their first album, Silence Yourself, contains plenty of great moments, but Savages' live show is raking in the raves, so this is something you're gonna want to see in the flesh. NL
