BYZANTIUM Not sure why, but I could really go for some pizza right now.
  • BYZANTIUM "Not sure why, but I could really go for some pizza right now."

Before we get to this week's movies, a quick reminder: the Academy Theater's crowdfunding campaign is in its final days, and it's still nowhere close to its goal. I've written before about why this is important; if you haven't already done so, and if you can, give 'em a few bucks.

Okay, this week's Film section is HUGE. Let's get to it.

ENOUGH SAID Alison says that the latest from Nicole Holocener—starring Julia Louis-Dreyfuss and James Gandolfini—is the filmmaker's "warmest movie to date, thanks to the insanely likeable Louis-Dreyfus and a great turn from Gandolfini."

DON JON The adorable Joseph Gordon-Levitt tries his hand at writing, directing, and starring in a film—too bad Zac says that thanks to a "a condescending script that shows a complete lack of sympathy for (or even interest in) its characters, Gordon-Levitt seems almost contemptuous of the petty and monotonous lives he's created." (Third rock from the burn.)

BLUE CAPRICE Is it weird that I wanted a drama inspired by the 2002 Beltway sniper attacks to be more upsetting? I feel like a movie inspired by the 2002 Beltway sniper attacks should be more upsetting than this one is.

METALLICA: THROUGH THE NEVER Zac's headline for this one pretty much sums it up: \m/>_<\m/

EVOCATEUR: THE MORTON DOWNEY JR. MOVIE Steve liked this documentary about the man who "set the stage for the glut of today's right-wing lying loudmouths, reality trash shows, and social media trolls."

BYZANTIUM Jesus, how many movies did Zac review this week? Anyway, he says Neil Jordan's latest vampire movie, despite starring the fantastic Gemma Arterton, lands "somewhere in the unflattering middle-ground between Twilight and Let the Right One In."

INEQUALITY FOR ALL Dirk was really impressed by this documentary featuring economics professor/former secretary of labor Robert Reich about how all of us—particularly those of us in that oft-derided, oft-debated millennial cohort—are FUCKED. (Thanks, previous generation!) This is one of those movies I want to force you apathetic losers to watch, Clockwork Orange-style.

RUSH Alas, while every American should be going to see Inequality for All, they'll likely be watching Ron Howard's latest movie. :(

There's EVEN MORE in Film Shorts, including reviews of Baggage Claim (which Rose says is just like every terrible romcom ever, except with black people!) and the documentaries Salma and Cutie and the Boxer. And here are your Movie Times.
