As you assemble your strategy for approaching First Thursday later this week (including where to grab a drink, perhaps?), consider this: Dreem Street is a collaboration between Eric Mast AKA E*Rock—who you've no doubt encountered in at least one of his various guises as DJ, musician, animator, poster artist—and L.A. artist Matthew Chambers. Essentially it's a line of limited edition tees featuring a design from one of the two of them and printed in batches of about eight to 15 apiece. Twenty bucks will get you one, but the endeavor isn't exactly being forcefully marketed or art directed. Both use it as an outlet to work out ideas, and their "production schedule" is determined mostly by competition between the two of them.

Recurring themes include fan tees and critical engagements with the evolution of youth culture, particularly in two recent designs: Mast's "bands" tee is a collage of highly visible band logos, and a collaboration with Yung Zine is a response featuring backwards Nike swooshes paired with names like "Morissey" and "Sonic Youth." Although they've been at it for a few years now, they've never had a proper Portland debut This Thursday, though, they're having an opening for a show of past and current designs, some prints on paper. L.A. photographer Ben Goddard's photos featuring cameo appearances by the shirts, and potentially an essay written by Mast about the meaning and origin of the "bands" shirt. It's happening at Floating World (400 NW Couch) with a reception from 6-9 pm, and will be up for the rest of the month. A few favorites:
