What happens when you invite Gaytheist to play your secret basement bunker on the eve of Halloween? You get this, a performance guaranteed to blister your ears. These two slices of aural whiplash come from Gaytheist's new Live from the Banana Stand album, which comes out on Tuesday, May 6. To celebrate, Gaytheist is playing a free, all-ages in-store at Music Millennium on Sunday at 6 pm; get there early, because they're giving away free Gaytheist T-shirts while supplies last. PLUS, Gaytheist is playing the Red Bull Sound Select thingy on Tuesday, May 6 with Russian Circles and Witch Mountain. If you RSVP, it's only three bucks ($12 at the door), and they're giving away free copies of the live album (while supplies last), too! That is a "good deal."
Rocket 3 have a fun new video for "Good Enough," starring the Portland Renegade Roller Derby league, who, according to the band, are "new roller derby team in town and they are reviving anti-establishment old school roller derby. Minimal rules, and fully inclusive of women, men and transexuals. We really wanted to showcase their spirit and comeraderie." The video was produced by Portland Media Works, and the super catchy tune will be on Rocket 3's upcoming debut album. The band plays TONIGHT at the White Eagle.
More Vriday after the jump!
Ah God did things the hard way with their new handmade animated video for "Peach Sunset"—they say "Each frame is a pastel and took a lot of weird time to complete." That weird time paid off, as this is a weird but watchable animated headtrip. It comes from a new EP of singles that's over on Bandcamp. Not sure when the band's next show is, although they are playing Kelly's Olympian with Cambrian Explosion and Mister Tang on May 31.
Let's end with another roller-skating themed video, this one from No More Parachutes. What happens when band mates don't get along? (Don't ask Wayne Coyne that.) There's a great punchline at the end of this Nathan Maas-directed vid, so stick around. The bright, poppy "Instructions (Pour La Vie)" comes from the band's album Frightening Situations, which you can check out on Bandcamp as well.
