Marjorie Skinner: “I will be wearing the ugliest shoes of all fucking time this weekend while putting my reputation into grave peril by attending a meeting with someone I’ve never met regarding an upcoming fashion-related event (on which they have asked me to consult!); attending a birthday party for a style-conscious gay man; and attending Tacos ‘n’ Tequila. I’ll also be researching labor, privacy, and harassment laws.”
Ned Lannamann: "I won't be at Disjecta's Quiet Music Festival tonight, but you should go—the von Trapps were just added to the bill, and I saw them last night at Mississippi Studios for a show that truly, guilelessly wonderful. Jesus crap, that family is lovable. As for me, I'll be at the opposite of the Quiet Music Festival: the KISS/Def Leppard show at Sleep Country Amphitheater. Horns up, tongues out, arm off! And then Saturday's all about Tacos 'n' Tequila."
Alison Hallett: "Other than Tacos 'n' Tequila on Saturday, I'm taking it easy this weekend. Weekend reading includes Anthony Doerr's All the Light We Cannot See and Lacy Johnson's The Other Side, a new one from Tin House. Looking forward to both of those."
Courtney Ferguson: “I’m going to watch roller derby this weekend! (Surprise, surprise, surprise.) Tonight it’s Rose City Rollers’ B-team skating against Antagonist Roller Derby. The thing with these Antagonist gals: They’re a killer team from the Seattle area, who are super-duper awesome at the sportsing of roller derby. There are quite a few teenagers on their team. I like to watch teenagers play derby—they’re really, really good at it. Then Saturday, it’s the A-plus-team, Rose City’s Wheels of Justice, who will (hopefully) demolish some St. Louis ass. I’ll probably also watch an unhealthy amount of World Cup soccer at the Moon and Sixpence.”
Wm. Steven Humphrey: "Yes, I love both Tacos "N" Tequila... but I'm really interested in seeing this War 'N' Buffett Supergroup that will be playing the event, which not only boasts some of Portland's best musicians, but they'll be playing mash-ups of War and Jimmy Buffett songs. That will either be amazing, or AH-MAY-ZING!! Also, as an alumnus of Back Fence PDX, having told stories there a time or two, I'm psyched about their move to the Hollywood Theater and tonight's lineup of Moon Zappa, Daniel H. Wilson and more—that's tonight! As for Sunday, I've got some big-ass camping trips coming up, so it's time to clean out and prepare the WM.™ STEVEN HUMPHREY MEMORIAL GLAMPER (AKA an absolutely boss 1978 Roust-A-Bout with smoked bubble windows). Take a gander, glampers!"
Dirk VanderHart: "Tacos 'n' Tequila, obviously. And I'm pretty strongly considering hitting up the Loud 'n' Lit Ride, the last big blowout of Pedalpalooza, which I didn't get to experience nearly enough of. Can my weekend handle TWO events that use the conjunction 'n'? I have my doubts."
Erik Henriksen: "I will be going to the Bagdad Theater to take in a two-hour-and-45-minute-long non-narrative film that subtextually addresses the simultaneous commercialization and destruction of the contemporary cultures of the United States and China. Following that: regret."
