Another week, another beer festival. This town is never at a loss when it comes to imagining distinct and precise categories of suds to celebrate—Saturday sees the return of Peche Fest at Saraveza, which celebrates peach beer, cider and mead. 20-plus taps will be available, including barrel-aged and sour beers, lambics, Berliner-Weisses and some exclusives made specifically for the festival; the list of participating breweries is strong, featuring The Commons, Lompoc, Logsdon, Mazama, Block 15 and Reverend Nats.

Especially worth checking out will be the contribution from De Garde, who create fruit and herbal imbued beers from their base outside Tillamook—they moved there for the air in order to capture free-floating bacteria and yeast to aid in fermentation (the area smells like chicken farms but apparently the benefit comes with what the breeze brings in from the coast). They specialize in sour farmhouse and Weisse styles that aim to capture the terroir of the coast—they use local berries and grapes—and there is also lots of ageing in various booze barrels (wine, gin, rum and vermouth have all been utilized). It’s a brewery that isn’t afraid to experiment and the results are often funky and complex, and well worth trying (they will be showing off their Vielle Pech, a farmhouse ale aged in oak Chardonnay barrels, with added peaches and apricots).

The festival will also feature food specials, including peach braised pulled pork sandwich with smokey peach BBQ sauce and peachy coleslaw, and peach cobbler. If you’re not totally peached out there will also be peach cocktails. Peche Fest, Saraveza, 1004 N Killingsworth, Saturday October 11th, 2pm -10pm, $10 (includes glass and two pours; additional pours $2 each), tickets available here
