—The last year has seen a couple editions of the Full Moon Gathering workshop—a female-focused happening originally held at the Sou'wester that combines a little bit of local vending with career advice of some sort, and a heavily wooed-out vibe. In their own words: "With the company of other radical female Creatives, these retreats set the foundation for deep and powerful relationships, inspire creative growth and provide the opportunity to reconnect with your social, emotional and creative networks. As a collective, we weave new patterns, explore the power of positive thinking and experience radical shifts into happiness." Plus a lot of mentions about "turning your passion into your paycheck!" The next one's moving its operations elsewhere on the Long Beach peninsula, to the Adrift Hotel, for its next retreat (August 27-30), and if you want to commune with this jazz, it costs somewhere between $240-525+ in workshop and hotel fees to check out, depending on how many other radicals you're willing to share a room with. (Note: Registration closes July 30.)

—You may have caught my earlier mention of the collaboration between apparel designer/musician/dancer Heather Treadway and Rebecca Pearcy of of Queen Bee, but it's less likely you saw one of the simple printed pieces from it modeled by SpielWerk Toys' Stacee Wion, and you might like that:

—If you're shopping around for a new barbershop, here's one more to stick on your radar: Brick & Mortar Barbershop opened last month on lower Hawthorne, devoting a good chunk of the new space to hair and skincare product retail. Perfect to browse while you scope out the barbers at work.

—Local documentary makers Cineastas have made a wonderful short film about Pinkham Millinery's Dayna Pinkham. "Recently, we have been doing lots of corporate and commercial videos," says Cineastas' Sean Grasso. "'Pinkham' was a passion project that allowed us to return to our roots of short form documentary, with only the intention of learning from Dayna and polishing our own craft. We were very inspired by her story and her insight, especially as young people on a non-traditional course."
