Loyal readers! Some big, exciting (and a little bit sad) shifts over here at Mercury HQ! After a whopping 14.5 years (!!) of meritorious service, managing editor and fashion critic Marjorie Skinner is leaving the Mercury to pursue a career in copywriting/editing/styling/producing/murder-for-hire freelancing. Marjorie has been a goddamn beacon of light to all of us here, and we'll miss the crap out of her! (She'll be around until the first of the year, and afterwards will still be contributing to the Mercury on a frequent basis—so cheer up, Grumpy Gus!) In short, MARJORIE IS THE BEST.

Now, with Marjorie vacating her managing editor position, we're going to shake things up a bit by appointing our own Erik Henriksen as managing editor (he'll still be overlooking the film department), and promoting the brilliant Ned Lannamann to the senior editor position, where he'll be doing a crap load more of what he does best: writing (as well as picking up a few management duties). But... wait a second! Now we're short a MUSIC EDITOR! Well, I guess we'll have to do something about that!

WANTED: MUSIC EDITOR

The Portland Mercury is looking for a passionate MUSIC EDITOR to add to our amazing editorial staff, and to cover the music scene in one of the most creative, exciting cities in the country. COULD THAT BE YOU, OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW? Let’s find out:

The successful candidate will have strong/snappy writing skills, as well as a passion for and varied knowledge of the current music climate (both local and national). Editing/proofing/reporting/social media skills are a requirement, along with plenty of music criticism experience. Professionalism, enthusiasm, people skills, and a good sense of humor are a must.

Duties include managing and editing a staff of creative freelancers, producing great music criticism and reporting every week, going to tons of shows, writing occasional feature stories, and contributing to and assisting with other sections of the Portland Mercury. This is a FULL TIME position, with an extensive benefits package.

Interested parties should email musiceditorjob@portlandmercury.com (put “MUSIC EDITOR JOB” in the subject line) and include the following:

• A cover letter describing why you're so awesome.

• A resume that includes pertinent experience (including other fields of interest).

• Up to five published music writing clips (blog posts are acceptable, as are PDFs and URLs).

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS IS MONDAY, DECEMBER 14, 2015.

The Mercury is an Equal Opportunity Employer—and we really mean that.

Congrats to Erik and Ned, and bon voyage Marjorie! (Know somebody who might be interested in the Music Editor position? Let 'em know!)
