Dear PDX cyclists,

You may be unaware, but you have a fellow citizen that is representing you on the streets in Portland. Unfortunately, I have let you down. In the past month I have been told by several people driving cars how I am the reason people hate bikes in this city.

I would like to apologize to the passenger in the car on Broadway downtown for riding my bike during rush hour on the same street as you were (because the Steel Bridge was closed). It was so selfish of me to ride on the right side of the lane (stopping at the traffic lights and stop sign, while wearing a helmet). I had no idea the person driving the car you were in (I think it was your Mom) was not comfortable passing me. You had every right to yell at me. I should have apologized to you when we met at the next block after I allowed you to pass me.

As for the person in the Saab this weekend, I will take all blame for the Subaru who did not want to pass me while I was on 7th. Thank you for blaming me. I now know I need to write a letter to the city asking them to get rid of the sharrows and to tell Google Maps that 7th should not be a suggested bike route.

I never asked to be your representative, but it seems like I am stuck representing you for the time being. Hopefully, next month I will do a better job of representing you all.
