I moved to Portland in 1990, way before it was "hip" or "cool" or, oh my fucking Christ, "weird". Back then, Oregonians were known for their friendliness, at least this is what I had heard. That rumor proved to be true. I met so many nice people back then, simple people who would just say hi out of the blue. It was an great place, and this is why I decided to stay. I saw this change over the years, the influx of people just like me (transplants), but, there was something different about them. They were adult children, rude, arrogant, untalented hacks that seemed think being loud was equivalent to creativity and uniqueness. I go out now only to find rude people working there, plastered with tattoos to impress the family and friends back home, "high and tight" haircuts with long beards (as if these "lumberjacks" ever go out into woods) with a simply bad attitude. I'm sick of it. They've ruined this town for me and I've been thinking of moving away for years now. The final nail in the coffin was yet another native Oregonian friend of mine having to move out of their own city because the rents are too high. Yes, I'm a transplant, but I've been here for over 20 years and I didn't decide to make a life here because it was "cool". I decided to make a life here because of what it was, not because of what I wanted it to be. I didn't want to change it, and that's the difference between you and me.
