Pure Pod for Now People: Episode 75

In honor of their 75th episode of Pure Pod for Now People, Matt and Magsy play some of the crappiest music ever committed to vinyl. Are you strong enough make it through 10 songs that evoke physical pain and nausea in human beings? Let's hope so--it's the only way you'll find out which songs made it on the show!

Oh, Slessler. You've done it. You've put me in the unenviable position of defending Alanis Morrisette. You bastard.
Here's the thing - she's not my favorite, but I think she's written some decent songs, "You Oughta Know" being one of them. Not the best song in the world, but DEFINITELY not one of the 10 worst. The first thing you mentioned about the song was the jackass girls who gather in bars and belt this out like it's their own personal anthem. First of all, any woman who thinks it's a good idea to stand in a bar essentially screaming that she's been unceremoniously dumped is an idiot. That's not the question here. The question is, is it Alanis' fault that her song was taken up as an anthem for bitter idiots everywhere? No. In the same way that Bobby McFerrin and Joan Osborne can't be held responsible for the fact that their most vapid, cheesy songs were also their most popular. (Don't Worry, Be Happy and What if God Was One of Us, respectively. Or, not-so-respectively.) That happened because, as you're well aware, people are stupid.
I mean, if you're gonna talk crappy Alanis Morisette songs, what the fuck happened to "Ironic."? It's not *ironic* that you were offered a free ride after you already paid. It's *inconvenient*, you jackass.
Oops. I guess I'm not defending her anymore.

Great Pull on the Dan Hill. If that song plays my wife will not make love to me for a month..4 Non Blondes and Solo Jagger also great pulls. The Doors, well my dad force fed me them from an early age, so I don't mind them at all. I still think "Wind Beneath My Wings" should have made the cut.

I felt the need to pull a little from each genre, so I had to choose between Wind and Sometimes when we touch..No I will grant you that Bette Midler is one of the most annoying creatures on the planet, but "I want to hold you, till the fear in me subsides" trumps anything and everything from the genre "crappy love ballad".
As for Alanis. Sorry, I can't agree. Any self respecting adult, man or woman who is over the age of 9 and who says the words "it's not fair" in any context, needs to be ashamed. It's not fair??? Really??

Matt and Magsy,
You are so wrong about UB40. Yes, they made their money with cover songs, but the early stuff is awesome (Signing Off, Present Arms and UB44 are great albums). Take a listen to "One In Ten", "King" or "Food For Thought". I know you hate Reggae, so maybe these songs are lost on you, but of the 50 selections on my Juke ('56 Seeburg R) one slot is always occupied by a UB40 7". I'm just about ready to turn in my Pure Pop decoder ring.
And yes it is gay to dream about Sting's ********
