Every year The Mercury gathers up a mountain of fun items from our friends and advertisers, and then we auction them all off to benefit a worthy and often overlooked local charity. This year all the proceeds of the Mercury Online Charity Auction will go to the Portland Women's Crisis Line— an incredibly important and life-changing local nonprofit that operates a 24-hour hotline for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Plus they also provide crisis intervention, transportation assistance, emergency housing resources, and lots more. Want to help them out? YES, YOU DO. Hollywood Reads Your Screenplay
Everyone has a screenplay. But does yours have what it takes to get optioned by a studio and turned into an instant indie classic? Find out when Greg Barto, a creative executive at an LA production company and five-year industry vet, takes your work through the same process that agents and literary managers go through to get to pass, consider, or recommend. He'll write up a synopsis and include comments on how to improve the story (making the next draft your best draft), and then he'll follow up with a phone call to discuss. He'll also arrange for two other industry cats—maybe someone at an agency, maybe another writer—to provide simple coverage (a short synopsis with comments) on your screenplay to get you a broad range of insight.
