Re: “Best of 1988: Marc Baker of Crazy 8s”
Hello my name is Joseph Johnson Jr. and I was the Tenor sax player and a songwriter ("Jump Rock" and "I'm Ok Your'e Ok") on the album "Law and Order"....In regards to Marc Bakers assertion that the band did not go with a label after the release of "Law and Order" because the band was "Two Tone" (Black and White musicians), and certain record labels did not want to sign a ska band...is not accurate....after the bands appearance on Star Search (Marc Baker, Todd Duncan and others did not want to go on Star Search), and major exposure in the electronic (radio and tv) and print media(newspapers, and multiple industry trade publications, including but not limited to:TV Guide,Rolling Stone, and Billboard) there was alot of interest in the band from the industry....Another unknown fact is that the band by appearing on "Star Search" helped in a small way to boost there TV ratings in the Pacific Northwest.... being that the Crazy 8's were very popular in the Pacific Northwest......this helped Star Search somewhat in there desire to sign another cotract with the network......How do I know? I re-negotiated the Star Searh contract along with the attorney I was able to find, and he told me that "Star Search" at the time had use for the Crazy 8's in the big scheme of things......when the band broke up shortly after the "Star Search" appearance, they could not seriously entertain industry offers due to possible legal problems invoving my copyrights to "Jump Rock" and "I'm Ok Your'e Ok", that's why they released another version of "Law and Order" without those songs on it..........
