Hallett writes:

"Improv is unrehearsed, usually fast-paced, and often relies on audience suggestion. If it involves games, it's improv."

Wrong. Long form improv, which is what Second City or UCB does (in addition to their sketch shows) does not involve playing improv games.

Is is too much to ask that an arts writer actually do a little research if they are going to write about something? It's ironic that Hallett complains that people mischaracterize sketch when she herself clearly has no authority on the comedy format. But apparently, because someone gave her a job, she thinks she does...

"phillyguy," you're a twit.

Is it too much to ask that a commenter actually comprehends the phrase in question if they are going to shrilly criticize it? Hallett writes: "If it involves games, it's improv." She did not write "ALL improv involves games."

Do you understand the difference?

Sirs:

I once improvised a practical joke for a British television show in which a well-dressed gentleman stuck his head out of a coal chute in South Kensington (a part of London south of Hyde Park and west of Big Ben) asking if this was the way to the nearest tube station.

This routine received rave reviews. As a blogger might say, "LOL". Those were the days.

I remain your humble servant,

Jacomus
