A for effort! Hope you are enjoying that beer.

As I pointed out in the last thread, gas station owners in particular and almost every other business can figure out how to pass on a 20 cent cost increases without making any extra $1.30 in profit. I suspect that bar owners can too, but they just don't want to admit it. There is a quote that applies here:

"It is hard for a person to understand something when his livelihood depends on not understanding it."

How about we just not tax beer. I could think of a gazillion other things to tax/toll to get that money that the state apparently so desperately needs.

Beer has been failing to pay its way for years. It is WAY past time to catch up. This industry needs to carry its treatment capacity burden just like gambling or any of these things. They get the profit, they get the cost. It is about what kind of community we want to live in. Human needs, like alcohol treatment, have to trump profit. End of discussion.

The idea that retailers have to charge 30 cents to recoup 20 cents should be considered consumer fraud.

Why not just a general sales tax, rather than trying pin this on any one demographic.
6
And if the bar owners are telling the truth, why are the bar owners lobbying against making more money in profit? Seems like this tax would be a good thing for them. Something is very fishy here.

Are there any states nearby where I'll be able to purchase cheaper beer after this Sin Tax(c) inevitably passes?

I guess that, as with cigarettes, the key is to undercut WA juuuuust enough that people be coming down from Vantucky instead of heading up there.

Saying that the price will increase by only 20 cents basically assumes that the volume of beer sold will not change at all if the price increases. The backers of this bill say they expect sales to go down. If you have less volume then you must charge more per volume to make up the revenue. The way I see this 1.50 sounds a lot more likely than 20 cents at the bar. All this to deal with a meth problem that is not in anyway caused by me.

Please wait...
