Nice one, Us. Now why the fuck can't Oregon get it together?

Two strategems: I end up yanking these out every couple years or so when this comes up...

1) Appeal to personal loyalty- remind the rest of your basically redneck state-mates that these people they seem to hate so much are your friends and family. Practice the "...and you do NOT fuck with my friends, and you do NOT fuck with my family!" speech. Truth is, I've noticed that most people who ostensibly dislike an entire group of people are willing to make exceptions for people they know/are related to.

2) The Slippery Slope argument- "...this just means that the goddam gummint can come inta YOUR bedroom, too, y'know..." Or: "...if they comin' for me in the mornin', they'll be comin' for YOU tonight."
Somewhat fallacious, but it's the argument that kept the very worst of the OCA's ballot initiatives from passing. Narrowly. Besides, it's always a mitzvah to remind people that their destinies are entwined with others.

3) ...I don't have a third one. Anyone?

Why can't the US get it together? I still have to pay $3,500K more in federal taxes than my heterosexual coworkers because my partner is on my health insurance.

Nah, that's Idaho, or as I like to call it, "The Albania of the Americas".

Please wait...
