"How do you know you are on the list? How do you get off the list? I also note that the list has targeted primarily African Americans in a city that is predominantly white."

1) If you've been arrested in Old Town more than 3 times, probably safe to assume.
2)Stop committing crimes
3)Is that the same as BECAUSE they are African American? No.

Who would poor Dan Handelman pick on without cops to harass?

Was Randy Leonard lying then or now?

Today he said:
"I don't just support this program, I created this program, back when Tom Potter was mayor, and the reason I did was because of the desperation criminals find themselves in when they are drug addicted."

In August he wrote on the comments in Blogtown that:

"I have never been told of a list, I have never seen a list, I have never been told by the police bureau there is such a list, I have never emailed an officer or anyone else about a list, I do not direct the program, I do not sit on meetings about he program, no one has ever invited me to be in a meeting about the program. I have not emailed or received any emails about the program.

I think that should cover it."

To give you a different perspective on the solar-powered trashbins that Matt so lovingly referred to in his posting, they are actually pretty cool. There are two downtown right now. They are called BigBelly Solar and compact trash so trash collections are reduced by 80 percent and more garbage can fit in the container. So basically instead of 5 garbage truck visits a week, these require 1. There is also an option for a recycling compartment so there could be street level recycling, which doesn't exist right now.

We are working with businesses to donate more. here's a link to the program: www.portlandadoptabelly.com.

""One of the things I've learned over the last five months is how much the Portland Business Alliance contributes to the community," said City Commissioner Amanda Fritz, who recently extended the PBA's beloved sit/lie ordinance by six months."

Oh, Amanda ... :(
5
Megan, how much do they run each? And how long do they last? Regular trash cans take a lot of abuse, and still don't last that long, and they don't have any moving parts...
6
If we were "sustainable" there wouldn't be cans in the trash. In fact there would be public recycling bins, like there are in cities that actually engage in green practices, as opposed to talking about them as we gaze at our collective navel.

As much as the Portland Business Alliance gets slammed by Matt and others on this blog. Here are some facts, we:
- Raised $70,000 to save the Washington Park Concert series last week;
- Led a trade mission to China in April to help grow this foreign market to increase and keep jobs;
- Funded $150,000 to open day access shelters, which have provided services for hundreds of people that didn't exist before, as part of SAFE during the past two years;
- Connected 14,000 business professionals over the last year to help them build their businesses

For Matt who had a question about how they work, here is the manufacturers website. The two that are downtown right now have been around for about a year and are holding up really well.

Legalize drugs, all this shit becomes moot.

It's encouraging to see the PBA responding to the criticism: Megan Doern is the PBA's spokesperson.

11
Yes, thanks for joining in Megan! I have some other topics for you to address: What is the PBA's opinion of the Secret List/P57 program and the lying city commissioner? How about the sit/lie ordinance? I understand the PBA may be involved in both?

The trashcans sure are interesting, but let's not take focus away from more important things like life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Or forget about the civil liberties of Portland's citizens. Or disingenuous politicians.

Solar powered sustainable trashcans are the opiate of the hipster. I hope all the sustainable PBA folks don't trip over the mentally ill homeless guy dying in the gutter (Quick! Get him to the Day Center!) as they rush to get in the picture with the commissioner and the shiny new rubbish bin.

Oh, for Christ's sake. Yeah, the major problem with this city isn't the leeches infesting the sidewalk asking for money -- it's the businesses who are creating jobs and providing tax revenues.

Grow up and join the real world.

Matt brings up a really good point about the 'Consent Agenda' that has troubled me for years. City council passes a lot of legislation in the 'Consent Agenda' that never gets a hearing or public testimony.

For example: most of the claims settled with the city are passed this way without citizens learning what corrective actions have been taken to rectify the situation that caused the city to essentially 'settle out of court'. Then there are the contracts that are awarded or amended.

Also, be wary of emergency agenda items ( they have an * next to them) in the 'Consent Agenda'.

"As much as the Portland Business Alliance gets slammed by Matt and others on this blog."

way to solve that? don't let Mike talk in crowded rooms... with no one to quote and make look like an idiot, maybe Matt will wander on to Sam Adams full time.

"Raised $70,000 to save the Washington Park Concert series last week"

thanks, I will tell that to the people that when Blackwater-Portland (the PBA's bully boys PPI) sweep out from under the bridges when I see them across the river over the next few weeks... I am sure they will be happy to hear about the concerts you have given to visitors to our city.

"Led a trade mission to China in April to help grow this foreign market to increase and keep jobs"

was this Bill Clinton's China? http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/special/campfin/stories/china1.htm
or George W Bush's China?
http://www.rferl.org/content/article/1067801.html

either way you deal with some nefarious folks...

"Funded $150,000 to open day access shelters, which have provided services for hundreds of people that didn't exist before, as part of SAFE during the past two years"

oh yes, the blood money you gave the city to get rid of the homeless out of Mike's downtown dream... thanks again... of course, I wonder how many apartments that could have rented.

"Connected 14,000 business professionals over the last year to help them build their businesses"

do you tell these 14,000 folks that you deal with oppressive governments, have your own private security forces and want to remove any blight that is not sunny and fun from your downtown? when I come downtown do I have to wear a black uniform Megan?
15
The Portland Business Alliance is a legal entity engaged in the bribery and intimidation of Portland politicians to get what it wants, when it wants it, and how it wants it regardless of the impact on the rest of Portland. The Portland Business Alliance does NOT contribute to our community in a positive way.
16
Megan? Where did she go? She must be busy networking with Chinese business folks to hit them up for money for solar powered concerts in homeless day centers.

Please wait...
