No signatures from homophobes = no way this succeeds.
2
I don't have the money to do the polling, but the anecdotal evidence leads me to believe that I have a relatively decent chance of fucking Heidi Klum in the ass.
3
@Graham You're gonna poll Heidi Klum? Sorry.
4
Wasn't he supposed to fess up as to who is putting all the money behind this when he officially filed?
Get to fessing Jasun!
5
@Abusive Shh! Graham is gonna bang Heidi Klum, dude.

Signature gatherers must sign a document agreeing not to collect signatures from individuals whose goals are to remove Adams from office based on sexual orientation or religious social conservative reasons.

Riiiiight. And this is going to be enforced how...???
7
I drink the fact that you cannot take a picture to save your life. I drink it up!
8
Welcome back Drink the Line!

Haven't seen you around in Months. Been on some va-cay?

Having been part of a recall before (in another city), I have to say I feel for this guy. I wasn't even the primary person who filed when I went thru it, & my home and work were stalked by the local media. When the media was unable to reach me, they went to every one of my neighbors and coworkers asking what they thought of me. You'd think I'd done a crime or something.
I'm sure this guy is going to be picked apart by the segment of the media that supports Adams, and if he has even a fleck of dust in his past we will hear about it.
The ugliness has just begun for both sides.

I wanted him out in January, but I grew bored with that position by July.

I'll take my pedophile bankrupt lying biking truck-crashing mayor, but I want a statue of him getting a BJ in City Hall bathrooms to remind us of his legacy, like Vera Katz politely smiling and crossing her legs on the Eastside Promenade. ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/ujelang/31029… )

It'll be interesting if they come to my door, but I guarantee that they will not come back for seconds of what I have to offer them. And who is kidding who here. Most of the signatures collected will be people who didn't want him in the first place or homophobes. Not allowing homophobes to get involved is one of the more idiotic statements I've heard in a long time. They offer this dweeb Wurster his best chance.

Hi Genuinerisk,

Feel free to stop by my place any time and we can talk.

5769 N. Vancouver Ave.

I almost forgot how much love comes from Merc bloggers for trying to do something ethical.

I have never been happier to be living Downtown than I am right at this moment.

I look forward to being asked for my signature with great fervor.

This is not a gay or straight issue. Adams committed a felony: "Sexual Misconduct with a Minor" for kissing an underage boy with the "intent of arousal." Adams and Breedlove have both admitted to making-out before Breedlove turned 18. The admission of guilt is there. Those who think this is a "gay" vs. "straight" issue really need to seek psychiatric care because they are obviously carrying a chip on their own shoulders regarding their own sexual orientation. If we aren't going to arrest Adams or remove Adams from office, then we need to release from prison the 100+ people serving time for this exact same crime and strike their names from the Sex Offender list. If you don't like it, then petition the state to change the age of consent from 18 to 16 which is the age of consent in most other states.
15
Jasun,
How is saying "no homophobes allowed" ethical? Do you really think all the anti gay folks out there are going to just sit on their thumbs during the recall because you asked them nicely to? Do you think they all wear matching anti gay t-shirts?

I think that by "homophobes will not be welcome" what you mean is "homophobes should tone it down a little bit, so we can pretend everyone is doing this for a valid reason." I wouldn't describe that as particularly ethical one way or another.
16
Go Jasun. Where do I sign?
17
Jasun, I for one am impressed with your stand regarding signatures. I don't think you are coming at this from hate, just a misguided need to punish Sam for lying in the face of a question he should have never been asked. If the WWeek would have shown the same editorial judgment the Mercury did upon receiving the anonymous email from Beau we would not be here. If Sam had not gone overboard with his denials we would not be here.

If Sam had lied about having sex with someone under 18 I would gladly sign the recall, but since the only lie was about legal sexual conduct that he should have never been asked about in my opinion I am not really into signing. I will do you the favor though of testing your signature gatherer with a hearty "Hell yeah I'll sign, I hate teh gays." I will let you know how it goes.

(sorry for posting this on another story as well, I meant for it to go here.)
18
Atomic,

Noone said no homophobes allowed...but the recall campaign starkly rejects homophobia, which in turn encourages homophobes to practice shutting the hell up. And if the homophobes get this practice their children will have a slightly greater chance of not growing up like them.

Achieving a widely and commonly held goal of ridding Portland of a disaster of a mayor may indeed take some strange bedfellows.

No pun intended.
19
@ This is not a gay/straight issue:

Adams didn't commit any crimes at all, actually. Or did you miss the AG's report?
20
They stand no chance. None. It's not that I don't think that 50K people exist in PDX who would sign a petition, its the fact that the guy running it and who is surrounded with don't have a clue what they are doing.

Not a single one has run a signature gathering operation, ballot measure or significant campaign of any sort (and no, being the deputy campaign manager for a clearly insane woman in a local election does not count).

I would feel sorry for him if he didn't act like such a sanctimonious ass.
21
You better believe this is not a gay/straight issue. This is a scumbag narcissist-masquerading-as-a-politician-who-champions-confused-guidance-seeking-gay-youth, issue.

It will also be one of the first tests, after Obama, of the power of the internet to draw the political support needed for a local campaign like this to be successful.

The turnout over the next few days will be interesting, if not fascinating.

7803 N Emerald Ave, 5.30-8, tonight, tomorrow.

Look forward to seeing you.

Please wait...
