The Devil's Kreik was delicious, but I thought the smaller batch Rainier Kreik they brought was just a bit better. Both beers did a good job of carrying the cherry flavor over to glass without completely overpowering the rest of the beer. The Rainier just brought the "funk". Not as pretty of a beer in the glass, and as it warmed, the nose was was less cherry and more barn yard, but it really delivered on the sour. I also had the Cantillon Lou Pepe Framboise, and BJs Enfant Terrible to round out the sour evening. The Cantillon was as to be expected, pretty much perfect. Tart fresh picked rasberries dominated, but I felt like the yeast did a good job on the fruit's sugars, and kept it from finishing overly sweet. I was pleasantly surprised by the BJ's. I came into it expecting less after having the two double mountain's and the Cantillon, but thought it was a solid sour, and for the price and pour, I was happy with the order. This point of the evening was a bit too hazy for a more detailed recollection.

Now onto breakfast beer. In other places with a strong beer culture, it's hardly looked down on to have a beer in the morning. I don't know why there's still a lingering stigma here. I was in Belgium and Germany for beer a few weeks ago, and in both places, the restaurants, cafes, and bars were full of mostly locals having brunch and drinking beer by 10:30/11:00 am. It seemed like the tourists were the only ones a bit wary of ordering so early. I had a lot of beers to try over there, if I had to wait until noon or after, I would have missed out on a bunch. When in Rome.

You can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning.

Puckerfest runs July 10-16 (according to the Belmont Station website). They might have a few sours left on tap after the 16th - but I wouldn't wait to find out.

La Terroir tonight, and Cascade tomorrow. Epic.

Have you ever tried a Hefeweizen Mimosa made with a Bavarian Hef? It is truly delicious.

Please wait...
