Leonard is right about one thing...he sure is good at shoveling shit! hahahaha

Public Hygiene Lets Us Stay Human. PHLUSH wants the idea to succeed, too. But promoting the Portland Loo as a facility for homeless people is silly and counterproductive. Toilet availability is part and parcel of active living in any vibrant, walkable, urban community. It's one thing that unites us all.

story clarification: Randy Leonard has not applied for the patent; the City of Portland has.

I'm with Carol. While people who are homeless certainly need a place to pee and poop, SO DOES EVERYONE ELSE!

I live, work, and shop downtown, and more times than I could count I've had to either race home with a full bladder, or plop down $2 for an unwanted cup of coffee for the "privilege" of using their restroom.

Public toilets are part of trying to create a livable, civil society, plain and simple.

The alternative is to continue to make downtown a "walled garden" like Loiusville has done. No homeless people, no restrooms, no flavor, no life except for a few square blocks called "4th Street Live!" which is filled with Barnes & Noble, Starbucks, Chili's, Hooter's, The Gap, etc.
That's the direction we are heading peeps. Beware and be wary.

Please wait...
