GOOD MORNING, STEVE! HOW ARE YOU? I HOPE THE FAMILY IS WELL AND THE LIL' ONE IS GETTING A FULL NIGHT'S SLEEP.

It is hard to say where the "health care" mandate for individuals stands legally, Steve, unless the Supreme Court really decides to enforce the Tenth Amendment, the last of the Bill of Rights.

Were that to happen, Obama's choice of the compulsion route for insurance could redound upon very large sections of our Federal Government. It would take something catastrophic like that to empower the "small government" types.

We do not want that to happen, do we?

"How about a special branch of cops who are specifically trained to deal with victims of mental illness?"

How about train them all? It sounds like the problem here was not enough time to react, let alone call in a special police force. Something tells me if the cop had tazed him, we'd still be having a conversation about how evil the cops are for tazing a mentally ill person.

Please explain how any situation the police is dealing with (bank robbery, transient wielding a knife, domestic violence, murder) is not a police response to someone's mental illness?

Not Bush's first time for that kind of thing...

Paul, maybe I don't know what you're getting at: Are you saying that all mental illnesses are created equal? Or of equal severity? That a person who's stealing a six pack from the Circle K is just as mentally ill as a man in a park babbling incoherently with a box cutter?

Please wait...
