That's a mailto: link. No good.

fixed! thanks.

And now that I've watched it six more times, I really like everything other than Michael Cera. I'm still excited.
3
I love Michael Cera. We are going to have to agree to disagree on this.
4
I don't dislike Michael Cera, at all. I'm just not buying him as Scott Pilgrim. He's so self-aware and sensitive! SP is the exact opposite of that.
5
Just started reading this series based on blogtown posts. It's great, any other recommendations?

@DLS 3.0

Yes! For comics, or prose, or either?

Michael Cera just does the consistent variation of his character George Michael too damn often. I agree Alison, I was expecting and imagined something a bit different for Scott Pilgrim than Cera. The one defense I will offer to Cera is the deviation from his usual work when he was Francios Dillinger in Revolting Youth...er...Youth in Revolt.

I'm gonna have to blog this one out. I'm BLOGGING IT OUT HALLETT.
9
Scott Pilgrim is a conceited asshole; I have trouble picturing wimpy Cera pulling that off.

I think you guys are missing the point. Yes he is a conceited asshole, but he's a conceited asshole with giant cartoon puppy-dog eyes.

Alison, comics!

Start with Brian K Vaughan's Y the Last Man, if you haven't read that already—it's about a plague that kills off every man in the world but one (and his pet monkey), and it's really addictive and fun. I also really like Alias, by Brian Michael Bendis, which is about a former superhero turned private detective. Kate Beaton's book is one of the most entertaining things I own. (http://harkavagrant.com); I also really like Roger Langridge's Muppet Show comics...

Thanks Alison,
I actually got hooked through Y the Last Man, which I read about on blogtown as well. Then started Ex Machina and Fables... I really liked Brubaker's Criminal series, so I think I'll enjoy Alias. Just started They Boys. I love them all, but I'm always looking for new titles. Keep posting new series when you find them! Thanks again!

I've got a buncha stuff to say!

First, Michael Cera is a cunt. He plays himself in every role, and his self is incredibly annoying. He's essentially every whiny undateable loser in Portland, only he's incredibly wealthy and famous so he has regular sex thus creating this kind of "feel bad for me and/or pity me, except don't because I have more money and more tail than you."

And I can see him as Scott, except that makes me angry because I want Scott to be more awesome than that.

As for the trailer, am I alone in thinking that Chris Evans' 1.5 seconds of screen time was awesome? Way to go Captain America!

Hey DLS, do yourself a favor and find any/all of the following. You'll thank me and maybe buy me stuff from sheer gratitude:

- Warren Ellis' 12-issue Marvel series "Nextwave"
- Any/all issues of "Daytripper" by Fabio Moon and Gabriel Ba
- Something from one of Robert Kirkman's creator owned series; Walking Dead if you want zombie horror, Invincible if you want Spider-Man style superheroics, anything else (with the exception of Irredeemable Ant Man) if you want clever writing involving whichever character Kirkman got his hands on that week
- We3 -- but make sure you read it by yourself unless you're comfortable weeping openly in front of other people

But whatever you do, don't do the typical "I read Watchmen and Sandman and so I'm TOTALLY a comics geek!" In fact, just avoid Gaiman altogether. The legend of Sandman is so overinflated and covered in layers of gothkids baggage that it never lives up to whatever expectations may exist for it.

And if you absolutely MUST read something with a macabre, maudlin, goth slant, I say get James O'Barr's original The Crow graphic novel. The one that the first film was based on. It's a great, sad book. Doubly so if you're a fan of Joy Division and The Cure.

Please wait...
